Double Dare

Daily Contemplation

Double Dare.

Fear has stopped me from doing many things I would have grown through, had I done them. Some difficult, but also exciting things have called to me, like taking a trip alone to Spain to walk the pilgrimage to Santiago. I let fear of the unknown hold me back. I lacked courage, yet courage is exactly what’s needed to tame the beastly fear. Courage, according to Merriam-Webster, is “mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear or difficulty.” Fear is feed by ignorance. Educate yourself. If it is public speaking that holds you back, as it has me, then study methods to speak well and to squelch stage fright. If it the fear of traveling alone, study the area you wish to visit, the language and culture, and book that ticket. What can you do to conquer a fear and muster up the courage to do what frightens you? Do it. I double-dare you.

Promise

Promise.

When you break a promise to someone, no matter how insignificant it may seem, you damage the relationship. You chip away at respect, truth, and trust. Same goes when you make a promise to yourself that you do not keep. A dream is the promise of possibility. Respect your dreams; they are not accidents, but part of the creative process that leads you to your destiny. Tell yourself the truth; no more lies born of doubt and fear. Trust in the possibility; all is possible. Today, contemplate promising yourself that you will explore your dreams, and keep that promise.

Repeat after me: “I can, I will, I am.” You have accomplished many things. You learned how to walk, talk, feed yourself and read these words. When you were a very young child, you faced enormous challenges on the way to realizing your dreams, goals and visions. You overcame them. It took courage, fortitude, and an “I can, I will, I am” attitude. You still have it. What can you use that attitude on today?

Game On

Daily Contemplation

Game on.

I have a dream. I dream that my life and work will be used to help improve or bless the life of others in some way. I’ve carried this dream vision since I was a little girl striving and praying for my family’s peace and happiness. There have been countless times when I have both seen this dream begin to unfold, and when I have doubted it ever will. When doubt surfaced, dreams that had begun with such promise ended.  Have you noticed times when your dreams began to unfold, but something got in the way and stopped them? Is it doubt that has stopped this dream from awakening fully? Today, I declare that I am ready to realize this dream. Will you join me in declaring the same for yourself and your dreams?

Fear is my Friend

Daily Contemplation

Fear is my friend.

While I consider fear my friend, this hasn’t always been the case. Sans my adventurous childhood, I spent decades allowing fear to stop me from doing many things I wanted to do. When I was offered a prime time talk radio host position (with no prior experience), fear dropped me to me knees. This is when I knew I had to rise up and face my fears, or allow them to bury my dreams. I pushed through fear of public speaking and raising my voice to speak my truth, and I did the job for two years, which is as long as it served me. I realized that fear was not present in my dreams to stop them, but to show me what it was I needed to surmount in order to realize them. Fear guides me now. When I feel it, I know what it is leading me to what I must work on to get to the next level. Today, contemplate what your fear is asking of you.

Stepping Stones

Stepping stones.

Dreaming, imagining and envisioning your ideal life is fun. It is enlivening. It awakens possibility and gives birth to enthusiasm. When it comes time to take action on our dreams and visions, however, fear can block our clear vision and replace our dreams with doubt. Fear is simply another stepping stone, sometimes a boulder, that we must leap over in order to gain strength, wisdom and the confidence to proceed toward realizing our dreams. Contemplate your doubts and fears. Do they stand in the way of your vision for a good life? What will it take for you to conquer them and step into your dreams?

Embrace the unknown.  

Imagine what life would be like if you knew everything that would present itself. You would know when your love would appear, and when they’d go away. Would you still have the courage to love? You’d know when your children would be born, and how they’d die. Would you still have the strength to birth them? You’d know which dreams would come true, and which would fall away. Would you dare explore the dreams that met a different end than you had hoped for? There is freedom in the unknown.

Are you a wishful thinker? 

Dreams are the destination, and goals are the road that lead us to them. While wishful thinkers dream but do not act, visionaries dream and move toward those dreams with focused attention and action. The difference between a wishful thinker and visionary dreamer may be fear of change, or self-doubt, or feelings of lack, or something else. Are you a visionary dreamer with the courage to act upon your dreams, or are you a wishful thinker? If you find yourself wishful, contemplate what holds you back from taking action to realize your dreams.
