Why You Must Never Stop Daydreaming

September 28, 2019 by Darcy Simonson

Do you remember when, as a wide-eyed child, you’d gaze dreamily into a sky full of clouds in search of unexpected treasures? Maybe you’d spot a rabbit… riding on a pirate’s ship… and a three-legged unicorn… leaping over a… “STOP DAYDREAMING!”

I was a daydreamer then, and I still am. I’d sit in my elementary classroom, books open and pencil in hand, but my mind would inevitably wander out a window in search of adventures. I’d imagine myself on playground nearby, hitting the ball over the fence and circling the bases with lightening speed – the shining star of the softball team (I was definitely not). My daydreams might wander to the gothic church across the street, where I’d transform into a powerful queen living in a vast castle (I lived in a small home with piles of siblings and understandably neurotic parents).

More often than not, daydreaming would land me in trouble with teachers who thought that their subjects were more important than the ones I became lost in, but that didn’t stop me. Rebel dreamer that I was, I took my lumps and carried on.

Daydreaming is a precursor to creating

Check in with yourself. If you were discouraged from daydreaming, did it stop you? Did it cause you to continue to dream, but with caution?

It was through your childhood daydreams, visions and imagination that you were beginning to create your unique and ideal life. With enough discouragement, your daydreams may have become fewer, and by the time you became an adult, you may have forgotten how to dream at all.

Think back to the dreams that captivated your childhood imagination. Have they followed you into adulthood? Which of your childhood daydreams have come to fruition? Which would you still like to realize?

Although I never was able to manifest becoming a star on the softball field, I was recognized by my school as its star artist, and the feeling was the same as if I’d hit a grand-slam with bases loaded. I wasn’t able to convince my parents to move our unruly clan into a castle, either, but I did become my high school’s homecoming queen, and as an adult I’ve created several small castles of my own design — and, yes, I rule the roosts.

Give yourself permission. Daydreaming is a powerful tool for creating a life you love, as it sets in motion Universal Laws that conspire to make your dreams come true. Now that you’re an adult, take back your power and give yourself permission to daydream, beginning today. Create new possibilities born of your imagination, and notice as they begin to reveal themselves in your reality.

Dare to Daydream

I dare you to daydream. Imagine your dreams as fully and fantastically as possible. Feel yourself become inspired, alive and emotionally immersed in them. Have fun dreaming, and this time don’t let anyone stop you, especially you – yourself. You have a life to create, after all.

Please, share your daydreams in this post, both the ones you’ve realized and the ones you would like to. I really want to know!

Catch you later, DayDreamer.

Look Deeper

October 10, 2015 by Darcy Simonson

Daily Contemplation

Look deeper.

Human beings take life literally. Because we can feel it, see it, touch it, name it, assign a task to it, that is what it must be. Look beyond the obvious and imagine the possibility within everyone and everything. Imagine the possibility that lies within you. Contemplate where in your life you have limited yourself because you have confined your imagination to what is apparent about you. Then, look deeper.

“A rock pile ceases to be a rock pile the moment a single man contemplates it,
bearing within him the image of a cathedral.” –Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Flight to Arras, 1942

Creature or Creator

October 9, 2015 by Darcy Simonson

Daily Contemplation

Creature or creator?

Contemplate whether or not you think that you are a creature of circumstance? Does life happen to you, or  are you an active creator of your life? In what aspects of your life, if any, do you consider yourself to be a victim of circumstances? Today, simply contrast how it feels to think of yourself as a creature of circumstance with how it feels to be the creator of your circumstances. Which do you prefer?

“We are not creatures of circumstance; we are creators of circumstance.” –Benjamin Disraeli

Think Thoughtfully

October 8, 2015 by Darcy Simonson

Daily Contemplation

Think thoughtfully.

Decades ago I oversaw the creation of a Native American exhibit at a children’s museum. I spent hours painting a small teepee with the help of a Lakota spiritual leader and artist. He was one of the first to warn me not to imagine anything that I did not want to experience. In our culture of worry, riddled with often horrific media images, his words pass through my mind regularly. What do you think about that would lead you away, rather than toward, a life you love? Today, catch thoughts of worry or destructive, painful, negative imaginings and  shift them to better align with your vision.

“You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you.”
–James Allen

Imagine That

October 6, 2015 by Darcy Simonson

Daily Contemplation

Imagine that.

Some people I have worked with believe that they are not visual. If you have trouble “visualizing” something, shift your intention to imagining it. As children we naturally exercised our imaginations, and we were often encouraged to do so. Imagining sets our minds free to create in a way we might not otherwise. Today, with a child-like mind, set yourself free to imagine exactly what you want to experience. Color your life outside the box. How does that feel?

Weekly Affirmations

October 4, 2015 by Darcy Simonson

These weekly affirmations continue to help grow and build upon the monthly mediation and lend hand to each daily contemplation.

Weekly Affirmation

“Intention is the core of all conscious life. Conscious intention colors and moves everything.” –Master Hsing Yun

Each day this week repeat the affirmation below, or use your own words to empower yourself to actively create your life through conscious intention.

“I am capable and worthy of living a life I love.”

“I intentionally and confidently co-create my life.”

“I am safe trusting in the goodness of life and others. ”

“I am honest and trustworthy with myself and others.”

Learn about the power of affirmations to shift beliefs in Path One of To Love Your Life; Release What Was, Embrace What Is, and Become Wildly Wonderful You.

Daily Contemplation

Trusting others requires a firm belief that we can rely on someone, to know that they are truthful and that they have our best interests in mind. Without trust, there is insecurity and fear. A lack of trust may seem justified as you have experienced betrayals or disappointment in the past that you fear you’ll experience again in the future. Trust invites presence. It is a practice in surrender. Trust involves taking some risk. It is an exercise in faith that whatever the outcome, there is a gift waiting on the other side of pain. Today, contemplate which aspects of your life you trust, and which you distrust, and why. Are you ready to trust again?

Life is ever-changing.
To witness the inevitability and beauty of change, watch your natural world unfold and evolve. Humans evolve, too, and in that evolution there will be both welcomed and unwanted changes. Provided those changes are not dysfunctional or abusive, do we extend our trust, even through changes we don’t necessarily want or understand? Is it possible the changes could somehow lead toward growth and renewal? In relationships, do we building the relationship on a foundation of acceptance and respect, and allow change to unfold without resistance?

Constants.
There is much in life we can trust to stay the same. Among life’s inevitable changes there are also many constants, for the sun rises and sets each day. The rivers flow, the grasses grow, the trees will shed and the rain and snow will come. Find comfort in the constants, while you seek to strengthen your trust in change. What can you trust will always be a constant in your life?

Betrayal hurts.
How can you grow through it and not allow yourself to become victimized by it? A betrayal I’ve experienced seriously impacted my ability to trust. I had to make a choice: I could live in fear of further betrayal, or I could release it and move on. To let it go, I knew it was important that I recognize the gift in betrayal, which was that I now understand the damage it can inflict on others, and I will not do that to another soul. Another gift in the experience was that I learned not to accept disrespect, which set me free to create a relationship built on honesty and mutual respect. I learned to stand up for myself.

What gifts can you find in the betrayals you have experienced?
Rebuilding trust after a betrayal in a relationship was a slow process for me. It took concerted effort to focus upon the good in others. I had to make a decision: I could give this relationship my trust and enjoy the moments we have together without fear of ends or outcomes, or I could be miserable fretting over the possibility of being hurt and betrayed. I surrendered my fear through prayer, meditation, and allowing myself to choose feelings of love. When you are faced with fear or love, which will you choose? Take it one moment at a time, and in time, your fear will loose its grip on you.

Authenticity builds trust.
When you accept and respect others and their needs, and are honest and clear about your own needs, boundaries and expectations, you are building a foundation trust thrives upon. If you hide your true self, you are being dishonest. If you expect others to hide themselves so that you feel more secure, you are inviting them to betray or be dishonest with you. In which relationships are you inauthentic? I which relationships do you limit other’s authentic expression?

Do you trust yourself?
Contemplate whether you trust yourself. Do you promise yourself that you will do something, but not follow through? Are you authentic with yourself? Are you willing to face and accept the parts of yourself you’d rather hide? Build trust in yourself by being utterly, impeccably honest with yourself. And while your at it, be self-compassionate, too.

Intention

October 3, 2015 by Darcy Simonson

Daily Contemplation

What is intention?
Intention is the purpose and attitude for that which guides your thought, action and manifestations. Intention is not only purposeful, it is creative. You co-create everything you set your intentions upon. So, if you want something, intend it. Do you want to be supported, abundant, loved, peaceful, happy, healthy, successful, and more confident? Intend it, act upon it, and allow the power of intention to go to work on your behalf.

Act on your intentions.
Act and live as if what you intend already is, and so begin the process of deliberate manifestation. With intention, as well as other consciousness tools I will share with you, the life you want will arrive with greater ease and joy than you can imagine possible. Without intention, life is a gamble. So, what do you intend for your physical well-being? What do you intend to experience in your relationships? How do you intend to live a life you love? Your intentions will guide your actions. Begin contemplating this today, and later in the week be prepared to set your intentions.

What are you creating?
You actively create your life, and every moment is an opportunity for you to create a fresh, fluid, masterful life-work. Do you create messes? I do, when I’m not practicing intentional creation. Sometimes I create trouble, or sadness. Sometimes I create problems, and follow them up with creative solutions. The beautiful and the ugly are my creations, and I recognize and accept that. What are you creating? In what area of your life are your “messes” due to a lack of intention and purposeful thought and action.

How are you creating?
All of us are creators, all the time. Accountants, researchers, bus drivers, are constantly creating, just as are musicians, artists and dancers. Some of us create intentionally, some of us by default, and most of us through both expressions. I have experienced what happens when I leave the creation of my life to chance, so I choose to live creatively and intentionally in all aspects of my life. In what aspect of your life could you benefit from setting and stating your intentions, the purpose and attitude that guides your thoughts, actions and manifestations?

Examine the question.
So, the question isn’t whether or not you are creative, but whether or not you are you creating what you want. Are you creating the work, home or relationships you want to have? Are you creating the body you want? Are you creating joy or sadness, peace or stress? Are you creating by chance, or by choice? What can you think or do differently to create what you want?

Begin to live intentionally today.
What are your intentions? Today, begin journaling your intentions for all aspects of your life. Set your intention; believe it; act from it; keep the faith, and enjoy the manifestation of your desires, consciously co-created in partnership with the power of the universal force of intention.

The invisible force within you.
Dr. Wayne D. Dyer, in his book The Power of Intention; Learning to Co-Create Your World Your Way, makes a thought-provoking observation: “A tiny acorn with no apparent power to think or make plans for its future contains intention from the invisible field. If you cut the acorn open, you won’t see a giant oak tree, but you know it is there.” You have the power of intention, the invisible creative life-force of the Universe, within you, too. Realize it.

P.S. Remember to look back on yesterday’s daily contemplation and the monthly mediation!

Lay the Foundation

March 5, 2015 by Darcy

Daily Contemplation

Lay the foundation.

Now that you know what you want, why you want it, and how you are going to get it, create a support system for the realization of your dream. Do you need to set up a quiet workspace? Do you want to go it alone or do need a partner? A few hours of daycare for the kids? A new computer program to create from? Once you have identified a few initial action steps, take them…and begin to turn your dreams into your reality.

“Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.” -Life’s Little Instruction Book, compiled by H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

How?

March 5, 2015 by Darcy

Daily Contemplation

How?

Now that you’ve defined your goals and why you want them, how are you going to accomplish them? Write three strategies per goal that are achievable for you right now. Also, note the feeling you are desiring. For my example goal, “I want work that will take me to exciting new cities,” and the feelings I desire is adventure and connection with others. HOW I am going to do that? 1) Join a speaker’s bureau. 2) Set up book readings and events in places I wish to travel. 3) Seek out like minded people to host workshops in their communities. Now, it’s your turn. How are you going to take action on your dreams?

“The vision must be followed by the venture. It is not enough to stare up the steps — we must step up the stairs.” –Vance Havner
